About 12 years after my brother and his wife planted this mandarin tree, we are enjoying a decent harvest.
It is still small, but it really sprang to life after the neighbours removed some paperbarks near the fence. The chook poo mixed with sugar cane mulch seems to help a bit too.
It just goes to show, even if you are not the one who gets to enjoy the bounty, it is worth planting an edible tree to add to the genetic richness of the landscape. Some people pursue suburban farming to become self sufficient, I feel it is much better to chase inter dependance. So thanks to my Brother and Sister-in-law who had the wisdom to plant a mandarin tree when they had stewardship over this land. By the way, the lime tree they planted is also going gangbusters!
