Both my Dad and Bro have been busy installing the Ventilated Improved Pit Latrine. I got to see it a fortnight ago and it is almost finished. The majority of the walls are up. These were reclaimed sheets of corrugated iron off the old roof of the farm house. One of the joys of the VIP Latrine design is the vent pipe which carries the odours away, well above nose level. Plans are afoot to retrofit a slightly more elaborate toilet roll holder in due course. This hand basin, once fitted, will maintain the strictest hygiene standards. This will ensure the transmission of any transient micro-organisms is kept to a minimum. The view from this composting toilet will ensure joyful use for years to come. Work has also commenced on a platform for the camping shower. The flooring will be secured, walls added and solar heated water installed. This should maximise comfort for all campers. An old kitchen sink has been acquired from a road side clean-up for the kitchen. The generous bench space either side of the sink is perfect for the bush kitchen.
