So this is the latest on the composting toilet, or as it is alternatively known, the 'VIP Latrine' (Ventilated Improved Pit Latrine). The rear of the pan can be seen in these progress photos. The concrete 'ring-beam' is also set to go and will reinforce the top of the hole. This will prevent dirt from caving into the pit.
The pit itself was dug in two efforts, with three generations showing a keen interest in this venture. The pit features an emergency evacuation step for younger users struggling with incorrect technique.
I put the last piece of the door lock on today. The regular door latches just weren't cutting the mustard so I had to get a decent locking mechanism up and running.
I got busy with the router, jigsaw and the drop saw and continued work on the last two windows. One will be long and run lengthways down one side of the Outback Shack Micro Shelter. The other will be placed on the same wall as the door and will be an opening window, allowing for fresh air.
